A Day in the Life

Dazzling blue interspersed between leaves of green, as the trees stretch to touch the sky. Down below, we wander among the roots, dreams soaring above us, the reality of life anchoring us.

Wildflowers burst up wherever the sun can reach them. Butterflies dance among the blossoms, always in a hurry, never long to stay. Watching them is watching spring flit by and before you know it, you’re in summer.

Storm clouds start rolling in. The wind, which had been MIA as we baked under a 90 degree sun, begins working quickly, as though its supervisor is walking by. Thunder rumbles off in the distance and soon the lawnmowers stop and people scurry back inside.

The rain stops as suddenly as it began. A rainbow or two appears, a reward to those who venture out again. Birds pick up their songs once more and the wind slows back done to a nearly imperceptible breeze.

Eventually night returns. Delayed in summer, but not defeated; it seeks to provide relief from the heat of the day. Light that has traveled trillions of miles glances down at us, whether we see it or not. The serenity of moonlight allays the fear of total darkness.

Morning comes again, shrouded in fog. Slowly, the sun burns it off. Bees get back to work and so do we.
